Millennium Development Goals
World leaders convene to develop the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to set targets for reducing poverty and disease, including malaria, HIV, and tuberculosis. They also set a target to halve the number of people without access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation, and to reduce the child mortality rate by two-thirds between 1990 and 2015.
