The Baird Hatchery is the first permanent fish hatchery station of the U.S. Fish Commission. Salmon eggs fertilized at the hatchery are sent all over the world. In 1897 the hatchery’s namesake, Spencer F. Baird, was the force behind a landmark study on the value of fish as source of nutrients.
