Yosemite Valley becomes the first state park in the U.S. In 1872, Yellowstone Valley would become the first national park in the U.S. President Woodrow Wilson will create the U.S. National Park Service in 1916 to oversee the parks with the purpose to “conserve the scenery and the natural and historic objects and the wild life therein and to provide for the enjoyment of the same in such manner and by such means as will leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations.”
